Established in 1980 by the Vilas County Board of Supervisors, our district protects this 972-acre lake, known for its clear waters, diverse fish species, and scenic shoreline.
Through community collaboration, scientific lake management, and ongoing rehabilitation efforts, we strive to maintain a vibrant habitat for wildlife and a safe, enjoyable space for residents and visitors alike.

Latest Updates from the District
- The five-year update of the Aquatic Plant Management Plan for Little St. Germain Lake has been approved by the DNR. This 2026 plan was prepared by Onterra, the who has been involved in past lake management plans.
- The work to upgrade the public boat launch, originally planned for this year, has been canceled as the DNR has indicated they have scheduled a major renovation in 2028.
- Chemical treatment is planned this summer in Upper East Bay for Eurasian Water Milfoil. More information can be found on this website under the Public Notices and Events page. The permit application can be found on the Lake Management Plan tab under the AIS History tab.
- 2026 Aquatic Plant Management — District commissioners have been working with Onterra to develop the first draft of the updated Aquatic Plant Management plan for 2026 – 2030. This management plan will provide information for grant applications and lake projects. This draft plan can be accessed by clicking on the Aquatic Plant Management tab at the top of the website’s home page. The public is invited to submit their comments concerning the draft plan using the Contact Us email on this website. Please respond by February 9, 2026. Comments may also be provided to any board member.
- 2025 Public Boat Landing — In late September the rocks that had accumulated at the base of the boat landing were removed, eliminating that hazard. A project is underway to upgrade the public dock in West Bay, a coordinated effort between the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company, the Department of Natural Resources and the Lake District. The project is expected to be completed by June of 2026.
- 2024 Late-Season EWM Survey Results – Onterra has conducted our Late Season Mapping Survey. Results are available in the link below and under Lake Management Plan Tab, Subcategory AIS Treatment History, Title 2024 LSG Late-Season EWM Survey.

- Aquatic Plant Management Activities — Mechanical Harvesting and DASH (Driver Assisted Suctioning Harvesting) activities will be happening again this summer. These are expected to take place in late June, July and August. You will see the Weed Harvester out on the lake for a total of 15 days and the DASH boat for 10 days.
